Early testing has produced enormous hits, sometimes reaching the hundreds of trillions with gear that is not even fully finished. That sort of result does not happen by accident, though. Why HotA Feels Different This Season
The current PTR version is not simply an older HotA build with larger numbers. Its strength comes from the way several effects fit together. Ring of Red Furor is the centrepiece, as it helps the build land reliable critical hits when Fury is spent correctly. That changes the usual gearing conversation. You do not have to chase every possible source of Critical Strike Chance if the ring is already doing much of that work for you. Instead, you can put more attention into Critical Strike Damage, Fury generation, resource efficiency, and the affixes that keep Hammer of the Ancients firing at the right time.
LoK Ranz's Talisman and Splinter of Hellfire add another layer to the setup, while Leoric's Crown helps increase the value of the Soul Splinter system. None of these pieces works in isolation. The build only starts to feel complete when the effects support one another during an actual rotation. Lunging Strike is useful when you need to close distance or keep the character moving between attacks. It also makes the build less frustrating in open areas, where standing still for every hit quickly becomes tiring. Rallying Cry remains important for both Fury and general combat flow. The exact skill arrangement can change depending on whether you are clearing ordinary enemies, farming quickly, or pushing high Pit tiers. There is no need to copy a tester's bar without thinking about how you actually play.
Gear Priorities and Practical Testing
Start with a strong two-handed weapon, then look for bonuses that improve Fury generation, resource management, and Critical Strike Damage. Endgame Unique and Mythic equipment can raise the ceiling, but chasing rare pieces too early may leave the rest of the build underdeveloped. Masterworking a nearly complete item is often more useful than replacing every slot at once. Pay attention to how the character performs in real encounters, too. A training dummy can show a huge number, yet a build that cannot maintain Fury while moving through a Pit will feel much weaker in practice.
Gold also disappears quickly once serious testing begins. Enchanting one troublesome affix can cost a surprising amount, and repeated Masterworking attempts add up even faster. Keep a reserve before changing several pieces at once. It is worth testing one adjustment at a time so you know what actually improved the build. The PTR is a good place to compare different approaches, but the numbers may still move before the season reaches live servers. Treat the current results as a guide, not a promise that every value will remain unchanged.
