The second Closed Online Test for Global MapleStory Classic World introduces a wider selection of content and improvements based on feedback from the first test. Players can progress through 3rd Job Advancement, explore familiar Ossyria destinations, and experiment with controller support. Those following MSCW Items and classic character progression will have more systems to experience before the game moves closer to launch.
Building on Early Feedback
Closed Online Test #2 is not simply a repeat of the original testing phase. Nexon has used feedback from the first test to introduce additional features and expand the playable experience.
The larger test gives players more opportunities to explore progression, travel through different areas, and experiment with quality-of-life features. At the same time, developers can continue identifying problems and evaluating whether the classic gameplay balance feels appropriate.
This iterative approach is particularly important for a project built around an older version of MapleStory. The developers need to preserve familiar elements while deciding where modern improvements make sense.
Character Progression Moves Forward
3rd Job Advancement is now available during the second test. This provides an important new progression milestone and lets players experience another stage of classic character development.
Job advancement has traditionally been one of the most satisfying parts of MapleStory. Reaching a new stage can unlock additional abilities and give players a stronger sense of identity as their characters develop.
For the developers, the feature also creates an opportunity to examine progression speed and class balance at higher stages. Player feedback from this part of the test can help determine whether the current progression curve feels right.
New Areas Bring Back Familiar Memories
Ossyria becomes available in the second test, with Orbis and El Nath among the locations players can visit. These areas provide new environments and help expand the sense of adventure beyond the starting regions.
Veteran players may recognize the locations immediately, while newer players can experience some of the environments that helped define MapleStory's early world.
Opening these areas also allows Nexon to test how players travel through a larger world. Movement between towns, exploration patterns, and progression routes can all generate useful information during the testing period.
Controllers Become an Option
Controller support is another welcome addition. Players can use controllers and customize their layouts, making it easier to adapt the game to different preferences.
Keyboard controls remain an important part of the traditional MapleStory experience, but controller support gives players another way to interact with the game. Custom layouts can also help users create controls that feel natural for their preferred playstyle.
This is a good example of how the project can modernize the user experience without abandoning its classic gameplay foundation.
Wider Accessibility
The second closed test also adds macOS support and multiple language options. These changes extend the test to a broader audience while allowing Nexon to gather technical feedback across different configurations.
macOS compatibility can help identify operating-system-specific issues before release. Language support, meanwhile, makes the game easier for international participants to understand and navigate.
Together, these additions make the testing phase more representative of a larger future player base.
A Careful Mix of Old and New
Global MapleStory Classic World aims to recreate the feeling of early MapleStory while incorporating gameplay changes, balance adjustments, and quality-of-life improvements.
That combination requires careful development. Classic players may have strong expectations about progression and mechanics, while modern players may expect smoother interfaces and more flexible controls.
The closed tests provide a useful environment for finding the right middle ground. Feedback from actual players can help Nexon determine which improvements enhance the experience and which changes might move it too far away from the original formula.
Registration Does Not Carry Over
Players who participated in Closed Online Test #1 must register again if they want to join the second test. This requirement is important for returning participants who might otherwise assume their previous registration remains active.
The second test also includes exclusive milestone rewards. Participants who complete the necessary quests across both tests can unlock Classic Beginnings Label Rings and Chat Rings, which can be claimed when Global MapleStory Classic World officially launches.
These rewards give testers another reason to participate beyond simply trying new features.
A Promising Step Forward
Closed Online Test #2 offers a considerably broader look at the developing game. With 3rd Job Advancement and Ossyria available, players can experience more of the classic progression and world structure.
The expanded test also gives participants more ways to interact with the game through controllers, macOS support, and multiple languages. Players interested in MSCW Mesos can use the expanded environment to experience how character development continues in the evolving classic framework.
As the August 4-12 testing period approaches, returning and new participants can look forward to a fuller version of the experience. Their feedback will be valuable as Nexon continues refining the game before its official release.
